Whether you are facing the problem that you can not wear your favorite wig?Because it is too large for my head because it looks raised after you wear it. Anyway, the wig cap size is not suitable for your head. Now, what should you do? In the post, we will introduce methods to make a wig smaller.

As we know, there are different wig types, like lace front wigs, hollow mechanism wigs, full lace wigs and others. Different types have different methods to make them small. For most users, you can choose methods 1 and 2, because the lace front wigs are common and mostly used by customers, and these 2 methods are more widely used. Check them below:

If you use the glueless wigs, you can use the method like the below picture.

The Methods To Make A Wig Smaller

1. Pinning Method:

The first thing that comes to our mind is to use a pin, as it is so common in daily life. Here's how you can do it: Put the wig on your head and adjust it to the proper position. Identify the areas where the wig feels loose or oversized. Using hairpins or bobby pins, carefully secure the excess cap on the inside of the wig, making sure to distribute the pins evenly. Test the fit by gently moving your head and checking if the wig feels more secure and snug.

2. Sewing Method:

For a more permanent solution, you can opt for the sewing method to resize your wig. Follow these steps and see the video below, this video is made by Lily. Let's see what has she done:

Hey everyone, it's Lily's Touch again. Today, I want to share a quick technique that I've been learning for my personal wigs. Hopefully, you'll find this idea helpful. Have you ever had a wig that was too big for your head? Well, that's happened to me because I have a small head. Today, I want to show you how I dealt with this issue.

First, I put the wig on my head and adjusted it to fit perfectly the way I wanted it to. Then, I folded the excess cap on the inside, which I will cut off later. To secure it in place, I used pins on the outside. If you're interested in seeing exactly how I did it, let me demonstrate by flipping the wig over.

Please note that it would have looked nicer if I had used white thread, but I hope you still get the idea. If you're using hair that matches your wig's color, it's best to use the same color thread. This way, the thread won't show through on the other side. Now, let me show you what I mean when I flip the wig over.

Pay close attention to what I'm doing on top. Avoid going too far up, as you don't want the lace on top to become bulky when you put the wig on. Try to stay at least an inch away from the lace area. Do you see how I angle the needle to go up? This helps in closing it up without creating a fold on top.

Apologies, I just realized that I already removed the pins from the other side to achieve a nice fold on this side. You should pin it on the other side too, before flipping it over like this. When you're cutting the excess lace, be careful not to cut too close to the stitches, as some of the hair tracks may come loose.

However, make sure to cut as close to the stitches as possible to avoid bulkiness in the middle. I hope you understand what I'm explaining as you watch the video. Keep it close and pay attention to the details.

By the way, I want to mention that using a white thread would have been more noticeable. Since I'm using black thread, it doesn't look as great. Nevertheless, I wanted to show you how you can make the cap smaller.

Now, if you see some excess hair coming off, don't worry. That's normal because you removed a good amount of hair from the middle. Those are the excess hairs that were attached to the tracks on the other side.

Notice the track that's hanging? I'll have to stitch that, and you might see a couple of tracks in the back that need to be stitched as well. See how I'm parting the hair on top? This is to show you that if you do it properly, you won't experience any bumps on top where the middle part is. It should be flat and seamless.

3. Elastic Band Method:

If your wig has a lace or mesh cap, you can utilize the elastic band method to customize the fit. Here's what you need to do: First, you need to know the size of your head. Measure it by using a soft ruler. You can check this post:  How to measure your head for a wig.

Cut a piece of the elastic band slightly shorter than your head's circumference.

Sew the ends of the elastic band securely to the sides or back of the wig cap, ensuring it is evenly distributed.

The elastic band will provide tension, allowing you to adjust the wig's size by stretching or tightening it.

4. Wig Grip or Wig Liner:

For a non-invasive solution, you can consider using a wig grip or wig liner to reduce the wig's size. These products offer additional grip and security, preventing the wig from sliding or feeling loose. Simply wear the wig grip or wig liner underneath the wig, and it will create a snug fit while adding comfort and stability.
